Calling All Plant Lovers

Humor me.

Last week, my mother, sister-in-law, and I hit four rummage/antique shops. Rooms of junk. I'm still cross-eyed from the experience.

At one of them, the proprietor had two gorgeous plants: a dying Aloe Vera plant (which I will try to revive) and this one. I asked about them, since they seemed to be included among the furniture for sale. He said he was "trying to give them away." I gasped, and oh-so-graciously agreed to rid him of his pesky guests!

Do any of our readers know what this one is called? I want to care for it properly, but can't remember its name. Google and Wikipedia only go so far.


I'm a long time gone from high school horticulture class.

If You Diversify, They Will Come

I'm not talking about stocks or racial integration.

I'm talking about the handful of qualities that combine to make Idaho an outstanding place to call home.

This USA Today article says it well: "Idaho's growth is remarkable because it has no single cause."

There's not one single factor that draws people to the state. Some move here because of the low crime rate. Others--the climate. Still others crave a lifestyle amenable to spending the bulk of their time outside, but don't want to sacrifice the benefits of, well, civilization.
